January is ending :0
This morning I woke up to get ready for school and driving lessons. I was eating breakfast until I realized that I had 2 missed calls from my driving instructor, but on the 3rd call, I answered. When I went downstairs to meet him, he thought I forgot about lessons today and was still sleeping in xD
So how is my driving going? It's alright; still in the process of perfecting my skills for the test. I had my 9th lesson today (hourly). Next driving lesson is on Friday at 12:30p.
After lessons today, I realized that I was going to be late for Religion class; and there was a quiz!
Feeling freaked out that I was going to miss the quiz, I went over the speed limits (not by much, but I'm not supposed to do it during practice, and definitely not supposed to during testing). I even fast-walked/ran to class, and when I finally got to class, I was out of breath, but I found out that they didn't start the quiz yet (whew). Thanks for not telling me Reynold. But it's gee, you redeemed yourself.
It turned out that the professor still had some powerpoint slides to go over before the section ended and thus there was a quiz after every section. So 5 mins after I sat down, we took the quiz. I totally looked at all the powerpoint lecture slides of Hinduism once last night (that was my so called studying). So I took the quiz, after Reynold reminded me of some very important information that was going to be on the quiz. And luckily (very luckily indeed) I got a 10/11, which is 100% because the last question is always extra credit. What I thought was going to be a bad day, actually turned out pretty good. After that class, Reynold and I went over to Hamilton (3rd floor) to study, followed by exploring the 4th and 5th floor as well. Then we went all the way up to the 5th floor of Moore Hall to explore since we still had time before our next class.
I'm kind of sad that I don't have my camera because I lent it to my uncle & aunt for their 3 week vacation to Australia&New Zealand. So no pictures :(

Happy Chinese New Years!
My day didn't go so well...
So, caught the bus to Ala Moana and wanted to take bus#6 to UHM to get off near the dorms to refrigerate my home lunch. I got on the 5 when I thought it said 6, and went all the way into Manoa Valley >_<
I was freaking out so much because first, there were no students on board. Then everyone else gradually got off; and I was the only person left on the bus. After the last lady got off the bus, the driver asked me if I was lost and where I was trying to go. When I told him I was trying to catch the 6 to UHM, he told me that he'll drop me off at UHM lower campus because his bus was "Not In Service" anymore. I felt so relieved to hear that he was going to do that for me. He was a really nice guy; god bless him.
Well, the second not so good thing that happened was fish lips was following us around after Hawaiian Studies ended.
The third thing was that bus#3 took forever. I think today was actually the very first time it took me 2 full hours to get home from UH -_-" not cool.
I also had homework and quizzes to study for, which is why I could not blog on this actual day :(
1/24/12
Back to the present, I did pretty darn well on my quizzes today. Jessica M even joined Reynold and I for Religion. While we were taking out quizzes on scantron, Jess took hers on folder paper xD And she did pretty good for not knowing any of the material covered from the previous classes. Good job Jess!
So after my classes ended, I caught the A bus to the State Capitol to transfer to the 3 bus. Right when I got there, I saw the 3 bus and I was about to run for it right after I got off, but it didn't even give me a chance to run; It started moving as soon as I got off the A ;_; So I was standing on the side being sad that I missed my bus, until I heard someone calling my name in back of me. I turned around to look and saw Daniel in his car!
He asked me if I was going home and told me to get in. Hehe, I was happy :] What a coincidence; we wouldn't have bumped into each other if I didn't miss my bus.
We went to Costco to pick up some stuff before heading home, so called my mom and here was our phone conversation:
Me: Mom, I'm with Daniel right now going to Costco, but I'm still coming home for lunch.
Mom: Oh, ok. There's dim sum for lunch.
Me: Ok then, bye. (hangs up on her).
I tell Daniel "I think she thought I had a friend named Daniel because she took no surprise to who I was talking about."
She then calls back right after:
Mom: There's Taro Gok, Lo Bak Gao, and which Daniel are you talking about?
Me & Daniel bust out laughing.
A bit slow, but she caught on that I was talking about cousin Daniel.
Oh, it was funny... xD
Daniel treated me to a berry smoothie while he was getting lunch for Emily and himself, then dropped me off at home.
Later in the evening, I delivered some seasoned chicken, fried shrimp, and soup over to them and I got to see baby Aiden again. I saw him smile today!! His parents said that he sometimes giggles quietly to himself. Hehe, I wanted to see that, but I didn't eat dinner yet, so I had to leave after a while.
Pretty wordy post; sorry!

Chinese New Years Eve
1/22/12
On Chinese New Years Eve, I had a dinner with my family and relatives; got lots of red packets filled with good luck money! I haven't even had time to open and count how much I have. Been kind of busy yesterday with homework and studying for quizzes.
We ate at Wong Kee located at the Chinese Cultural Plaza. The whole restaurant was filled with tables; so busy. Maybe the food didn't taste as good because of that. We don't normally eat there, but we didn't really have much choices, since Panda Cuisine closed down and moved to a new location. I really miss that place; we've had so many dinner parties there. We have at least 8 dinner parties there every year, and we went even more often back in the days before the economy went into a recession.
After dinner, I thought we were going to go home, but it turns out we went to this temple next to the cultural plaza. Though it was not the actual day of Chinese New Years, we went anyways since it would be super crowded around midnight and the following day. I got home around 10pm; just enough time to do my Hawaiian Studies reaction paper.

More about Friday
1/20/12
Since the last post was pretty long/filled with a lot of pictures, I figured I should split this day into 2 parts. So the previous blog post was about the second part of my day. This blog post is about the first.
Yeah, I'm not sure why I posted the second part first. I think it's because that was more fun to talk about x]
Anyways, I woke up earlier than usual this morning to get ready for morning driving lessons. I drove out to Dillingham area again, via Nimitz. For the first time, I learned and practiced parallel parking. From watching Kelly and Kevin practice it several days ago, I thought it was going to be really hard to parallel park; but it turned out to be really easy to me. Of course, I have to thank my driving instructor for that. He gave me really great advice in what I needed to do and look for during parallel parking; thus making it easy for me. I think I practiced parallel parking maybe 6 times in all today, in different spots, behind different cars. He even made me park exactly between 2 cars. My first reaction was like "what?!? I can't do that!" But then it was just like parking in any other spot behind a single car, except I have to make sure I don't hit the car in back of mines.
Oh, fun fact: In Chinese, what we call parallel parking, literally translates to sandwich parking because the car is directly being sandwiched in between two other cars (front and back).
Hope you found that interesting. If not, it's ok...
When it was time to finish parallel parking practice, I drove to UH campus and got dropped off there instead of back at home. That makes it a lot easier on my driving instructor too :]
I know, this is bad, but we all decided to skip Macroeconomics. To be honest, I would rather read the book than listen to him lecture in his kind-of-hard-to-understand Chinese accent. Instead, we all hung out at Campus Center until our next class started.
Well, that was part 1 of my day.
(sorry, no pictures in this one).
Have an awesome weekend!

Chinese New Years with Friends!
1/20/12
I'm really happy that I'm keeping up with my blogging and that I have things to blog about.
So, I planned an outing about 2-3 days ago for today, and I was kind of getting disappointed because I didn't think it was gonna work out, but to my surprise, it worked out much better than I expected.
Since it's Friday today, I wanted to hang out with everyone and take the chance to go down to Chinatown for the Chinese New Year event at the Cultural Plaza.
It came down to 8 people that went; (including myself) and Kelly, Kevin, Reynold, Tyler, John, Darian, and Henry!
After most of us finished class today, we all met up at the Campus Center game room because Kevin and Tyler wanted to play pool while they were waiting for Henry to end his last class. While some of the guys played pool, the rest of us just sat around and chatted. When Henry finished class, we waited for John to meet up with us. Then we all caught the A bus down to the Cultural Plaza; on the way there, John said he saw Jessica M sitting at a bus stop. When we called to confirm it was her, she was indeed at the bus stop waiting to catch the bus back to her old house in Salt Lake; too bad she couldn't join us :[
When we got to the Cultural Plaza, the first thing we did was go eat dim sum at Fook Lam Restaurant. When we walked in, it was super empty because they were going to close in an hour D; but luckily, they still welcomed us in to sit down and took our order. The bad thing about going in late was that they didn't have and were not going to make certain dim sum anymore; but the good thing was that everything we ordered was made steaming-fresh. At first, I really thought we ordered too much food and that we were not going to finish everything, but to my surprise again, we finished everything we ordered. All of you guys never fail to amaze me. Another surprise to me was that it was Tyler and Reynold's first time eating dim sum. Hope you guys enjoyed the food!
After eating, we went into the cultural plaza to look around at food stalls and other gift vendors. It was fun walking around and Kelly and I even got everyone to light incense and pray for something good this year. We left around 5pm; Some of us had to go our separate ways to bus home/back to campus.

These 2 are the newest additions to my collection.
Not only very cute and comfortable, but they were cheap too.
(left: $3.50 right: $2.50)
Kelly got two as well; similar to mines, but different patterns&colors.
Thanks everyone, you guys really made my day.
Hope we can all go again next year with the others who couldn't make it!

Adventures with the Li Family
1/16/12
Woke up pretty early to catch the bus with Kelly to Tracy's house to help Ttracy dye her hair brown. We had a kimchi bowls together for breakfast and drank soy milk before dying her hair though. I even decided to dye a portion (a streak) of my hair just for fun. It's not noticeable, which is good since I never got permission to dye my hair anyways; but I wish the color were a bit lighter so that it can be seen.
After dying Tracy's hair, Tim came to pick Tracy up and was able to drop Kelly and I off at Kevin's house on the way. When we got up to Kevin's house, we chatted for a while until he and his family needed to go out. I had no idea where they were really going, but I went anyways.
Thus, the blog is titled Adventures with the Li Family x]
We went to China Town and Kevin's mom told us to go and eat lunch. All through lunch, Kevin gave Kelly and I the awkward silence treatment and wouldn't tell us why until after we finished lunch.
So after we ate lunch, we walked around, as Kevin's mom needed to get groceries. I walked into a few dress stores to look for bridesmaid dress ideas for my sister's wedding. I found some nice ones that were, I guess, more reasonable priced than the ones found online. And the good thing is that it's in-stores on the island, so we can try it on. Too bad pictures weren't allowed.
Then it was time to leave China Town and go to a friends house of the Li family for Kevin to get his haircut. It was kind of awkward going to someones house and not knowing the people there at all. Kelly just told me to listen to their conversations; they were pretty funny. I was even offered this ginger tasting rock candy; that was pretty good too.
Then we left and went back to Salt Lake. Again, I did not know if I was being dropped off at home, or going back to the Li household, I really didn't know.
My question was answered when I was going driving with Kevin and Kelly. They were gonna practice parallel parking near Salt Lake Elem. Even though I've never tried or learned parallel parking yet, I think I learned a bit of stuff today just by watching Kelly and Kevin practice it.
Afterwards, I just went back to Kevin's house to hang-out and to wait for Kelly to come back from her driving lessons. When Kelly came back, it was around 5pm already, so we left at 5:30pm.
Well, today was more exciting than staying home of course. Hope to have more adventures!
& Thanks for letting me take hung-mao home with me!

Saturday
1/14/12
Finally, I am caught up with my blogging. A lot has been happening these few days. First week of school was pretty good aside from the boring lectures and hard-to-understand accents.
Now that it's Saturday, I am back to work again. It was a slow day at work. This morning before going to work, I found out that my cousin gave birth at 2am today. Baby Aiden was born at 6.9lbs and is absolutely adorable. During work, it was so slow that I told my Aunt that we should get off work at 4 instead of 5pm and she said "it sounds like a plan." We also wanted to get off early so that we could go see my cousin and baby at the hospital.
After visiting them, we went to Chinatown and walked around, bought food from street vendors, and watched entertainment. I was surprised that I actually bumped into these people that I hardly see; I saw Eva and Vincent, Michelle L., Theresa G., & Jenny L.
I got there around 7:30 and left at 9:15pm.

Friday the 13th
1/13/12
After today's classes, I'll have a 3 day weekend! yay~
So after classes today, I got a small lunch with Reynold at Paradise Palms; tuna sushi (yes, I got it again). This time, when I teared the shoyu packet, it didn't open up properly, so I sat there for ~5 mins figuring out how to open it since I didn't have scissors and it was hard to tear with hands. I got so frustrated and sad, that I was about to eat without shoyu, until Reynold came up with a genius idea to use a pen to poke a hole into the packet. I realized that I had a mini safety pin on my pencil case, so I used that and it worked!!
After eating, we walked to Campus Center to meet up with Jess M, Kelly, Kevin, Tyler, and DK. Th guys were playing pool while I just chatted with the girls. We were in the game room for a while before we decided to meet up at the dorms with Jess O. I had to leave shortly after going over to the convenience store near the dorms. I tried to walk as fast as I could back to Sinclair Circle to meet up with my driving instructor for my driving lesson. On the way there, I tripped and almost fell due to those unevenly paved sidewalks. My right foot kicked right into the part of the sidewalk that was slightly leveled above the one before it, so I stubbed my toes. A cut opened up on one of them and it started bleeding. It hurt a lot at first, but by the time I got in the car to drive, it wasn't so painful anymore.
I was stuck going through traffic for about 10 minutes. I drove around Dillingham today to get familiar with the roads and surrounding; also practiced going through intersections with and without stoplights. I also drove home from Dillingham; went through Nimitz Highway and did a lot of lane cutting.
At night I went to my Grandma's house to sleep over for work the next day. Wish I could've spent my Friday night with my friends!

The Thinker Pose xD
He's guarding the "penny" too
And here's the second time Reynold & I walked through it since everyone else wanted to try it too!
Well, that was my Friday the 13th.
